Out of State / Tourist Arrests in Nevada

People from other states and other parts of the world come to Las Vegas with generally no other thought in mind than to relax, to party, to gamble and to have some adult fun. They have been assured by the Vegas tourism folks that “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” As a result, many of them tend to let go way too much of their inhibitions. Thus, they end up being in trouble with the Nevada law. They return home with a criminal charge hanging over their heads. Here in this instance, what happened in Vegas, won’t always stay in Vegas.

Las Vegas-Based Out of State and Tourist Arrests Criminal Defense Lawyer

The best option for tourists and out-of-state visitors who have been arrested in Las Vegas is to hire a lawyer who is licensed to represent them in a Las Vegas court and who is well-versed in Nevada law and legal system. At Goodman Law Group, we have been successful in helping our out-of-town clients get their Las Vegas criminal charges reduced or dismissed. We also see to it that personal court appearances by our clients are kept at a minimum. We know how inconvenient and disruptive it is to fly back and forth Las Vegas.

Common Cases of Tourist Arrests

Nevada Laws Most Tourists Do Not Know

  • Under NRS 484C.110, 484B.150 and 458.260, it is legal to walk around designated  areas of Las Vegas with an open alcoholic beverage and ride in a public vehicle operating for compensation with an open alcoholic beverage, but it is illegal to drive under the influence of alcohol or even with an open alcoholic beverage , or to be intoxicated in public.
  • Under NRS 201.354, prostitution is legal in rural areas of Nevada in licensed prostitution houses, but not in Clark County which includes Las Vegas.
  • Open or Gross Lewdness as defined under 201.344 (Nevada’s public indecency law) is vague as to which body parts cannot be inappropriately exposed or touched in public. Arrests have known to be made for the mere touching of a stranger’s buttocks  without that person’s consent in dance floors of night clubs.

What You Should Know If You Have Been Arrested as a Tourist in Las Vegas

About Dismissal: If you have no criminal record or no prior arrest and depending on the facts of the case, an experienced Las Vegas criminal defense lawyer can have the charge against you dismissed or reduced.

About Court Appearances: Generally, if you hire a skillful lawyer, you may not have to make the costly return trips to Las Vegas for the court proceedings. The attorney can appear on your behalf in all misdemeanor and in most of felony court hearings.
