There is no denying the actual importance of driving in Las Vegas. We drive to get to work, shop, meet family and friends. We usually spend a lot of time driving, making it difficult to avoid getting a ticket here and there. Yearly, tons of drivers in Nevada commit traffic violations that render them tickets. Two options are available for you. Either you pay the ticket or fight it in court.
Here are some of the types of traffic violations you can be convicted with:
A lot of people opt to pay this ticket without thinking about its legal consequences. Truth is, if you choose to just pay the ticket, you are already admitting guilt to the violation. This kind of violation will be reflected on your records for years and can also affect the rates of your insurances. Contacting a lawyer specializing in traffic violations is a better option you ought to take to discuss your options and legal rights with.
If you ignore the deadline on your ticket, you will automatically be warranted with a criminal bench. You can be held in contempt in court for failing to show up to defend your case and show care of the ticket. Contempt charges include jail time, a higher fine or even a new criminal charge. If you have a bench warrant for a traffic ticket, you need to contact the Goodman Law Group as soon as possible.

Demerit Point System in Nevada

Nevada follows a point system for different types of traffic violations, most notably for moving violations. These violations range from 1 to 8 on a scale. If you are convicted for a violation, these points will automatically be added to your driving record. The minute you acquire a total of 12 points and above, within a year, your license will be suspended by the Nevada DMV for six months. Most non-moving and parking violations have no demerit points. Other more serious charges such as DUI also don’t, since they have harsher penalties that call for license suspension. Take good care of the tickets that will be issued to you because your inability to protect it may merit legal actions on your end. If your license is suspended, you cannot drive in other states as well. Contact an experienced criminal defense attorney such as Ross Goodman if you have been cited for a violation in Nevada. With consultation, your charges may be reduced to something minor or else dismissed entirely so that your driving record will stay clean.
